All
computers on the internet have an IP address which is like a house address, this address is called an "IP address".
A
domain name like http://sap.niraj.tripod.com refers to those address and allows a person to simply remember
it nstead of the IP address like "192.168.10.14".
A domain name has to be registered to a service provider before it can be used.
